Conventional RTPF condenser fins are made of aluminium [alloys]. Aluminium protects itself naturally by forming its own oxidised coating.
Unfortunately over time this oxidised coating forms white rust and causes pitting in the surface of the fins. Both the white rust itself, and the ensuing pitting and degradation of the fins creates changes in the designed thermal transfer loads of the condenser, meaning it becomes increasingly inefficient - overworks and underperforms - costing more power to operate and reducing the machine's life.
