What Is Car Park Line Marking And How To Do It?

Car park line marking is the process of measuring out and marking the space intended for car parking so as to fit in the maximum number of cars and fulfil its purpose. Car park line markings have to be added to mark out the spaces so that drivers have a clear idea of where to park their cars in the most efficient way possible allowing other cars to be parked with ease as well. These markings have to be made according to certain standards depending upon the country, state or city you live in and the kind of paint to be used may be specified as well.

If you are planning to mark lines in a large area then it might be more efficient to use machines that are specially designed for making road lines. The machines will provide a sharper and straighter line as compared to lines done manually. Such car park line marking machines are available on rent and they can be contracted to companies as well who will do the work for you. In the case of a large commercial building, it is always recommended that a contractor does the markings as they are aware of the specifications that have to be followed in the place you live in and will, therefore, make lines accordingly. However, machines are also available for hire and lines can be drawn manually as well in small car lots or individual residential spaces where not a lot of cars can fit.

The kind of paint to be used is a very important part of making car park line markings as they will determine how often the line has to be repainted and if it is visible from distances. Different countries may have specifications in regard to paint as well.

The Most Common Types of Paints that Are Used for Such Markings are Listed as Below:

Car Park Line Marking

1. Oil or solvent-based paints: Such paints are generally formed by mixing of petroleum-based oils with other chemicals so that the oil mixes with them. Painters generally have a preference of oil-based over other kinds of paints for car park line markings and this kind of paint is suitable for colder climates as the paint does not freeze because of the presence of solvents while water-based paints may freeze when they reach near-freezing temperatures. There are several categories of oil-based paints which include regular solvent paint, high-performance hybrid, alkyd paint, and chlorinated rubber paint.

2. Water-based paint: water-based paints are environment-friendly as their main constituent is water and it is easily removable as well with the use of water. They are much cheaper than oil-based paints because the cost of water is definitely cheaper than the solvents that the oil is mixed in making it ideal for small parking lots where not a lot of lines are to be made. There is also a fast-dry version available for water paints that dry in a short span of 5 minutes and are ready for traffic in under fifteen minutes.

3. Thermoplastic paint: such paints are not normal paints. Their main constituent is plastic and they can, therefore, withstand much more than oil-based or water-based paint and are not easy to remove. They can be applied hot as well as cold. For cold application, any normal machine can be used but for applying it hot several techniques are available which first heat or melt the paint before applying.

The parking lot may not be given enough thought but it is one of the first places a customer or a friend see depending on if it’s a commercial or residential building and therefore it is extremely important that the process of perking is made as easy as possible with the use of these car park line-markings.
