How to Shield your Auto Glass from Damage When Parking Outside?

Did you know that carelessly parking your vehicle outside could lead to auto glass destruction? Although you can’t completely prevent auto glass damage, you could follow a few precautionary measures to reduce the chances of your car glass getting destroyed.

1. Do Not Park Under Direct Sunlight:

You should always park your car under a shaded area or in a semi-shaded area to prevent it from heating up and to shield it from direct sunlight. If you have ever touched your auto glass after it has been parked for hours under the sun, you will notice how hot it gets. This extreme heat can harm your side glass significantly as any existing cracks or chips might expand due to the heat.

However, we know that it is not always possible to find a vacant shaded area to park your vehicle. Therefore, it is best to always get your auto side glass repaired as soon as chips appear to prevent it from further harm due to heat.

2. Do Not Park Below Trees:

Parking your vehicle below a tree may seem like a wise choice when there is no other shaded area vacant. However, this safe spot can soon turn into a dangerous one if the branches are too long or heavily burdened with snow. The chances of a branch breaking due to heavy snow or strong wind and it falling onto your auto glass is very high, especially in regions that experience drastic weather conditions.

Therefore, we suggest that you carefully inspect and choose your parking spot, especially when you park outside, as it could scratch your auto glass and even cause it to shatter. If your auto glass does chip or develops cracks, it would be best to get it repaired as soon as possible to reduce further destruction.

3. Be Careful When Controlling and Setting the Temperature:

Have you ever noticed how ice cracks instantly when exposed to room temperature water? That is exactly what happens to your side windscreens when it is suddenly exposed to extreme temperatures. One of the main reasons for windscreen damage is because of it being exposed to extreme temperatures.

Therefore, we suggest that although you may want to turn on the heater or air conditioning as soon as you get into your vehicle that has been parked outside for hours, it would be best not to do so. The best solution is to roll down your side windows a bit and let your vehicle ventilate and cool down a bit on its own, and then gradually increase the temperature.
